Volume 03 – Road to Hana is now available for download to your favorite tablet, smartphone, or your computer.

Take Me Back to Hana

The road to Hana may be one of the most photographed parts of the island, and you can easily find hundreds and thousands of images online.

But the aim of this new eBook is a little different.

I want to take you back to your Hana, and your memories of this magical place.

With these artistic images created from photographs I’ve taken on my own journeys to Hana, I hope you reflect on how you remember your time along this famous road.

And, if in the process, I inspire you to return to Hana once again on your next trip to Maui, all the better.

Posters and Prints Available

As with the previous eBook editions, select images from the Road to Hana edition are also available for order as prints.

Next eBook Update

The latest update on the Road to Hana eBook is all good news.

At the time of this post, the final preparations are being made to update the site and prepare for the release this weekend. Yay!

More Preview Images

As promised earlier, with the eBook just about complete, I’ve added a few more preview images from the Road to Hana edition in the new Poster Gallery.

So, if you haven’t yet, head on over there now and get another taste of what to expect when the full eBook is released this weekend.

As of now, there are nearly 60 pages in the current working draft of this edition, including over 65 images from the road to Hana.

Too Big?

One question that remains to be answered is whether there are too many pages and photos for a single eBook.

I do want to be conscious of the fact that these eBooks will be downloaded to not just computers, but smartphones, tablets, and eReaders, too. So if the final file download size ends up being too large, I’ll likely end up splitting this into two editions instead of one.

I suppose that might be a good problem to have, but I may have to rework the concept and the categorization of these images to fit into two eBooks instead of one.

Next Update

I expect to have another update early next week, with perhaps a few more sample images to share.

From there, the final edition (or editions) could be available as earlier as next weekend, so stay tuned for more updates soon.

In fact, there’s even a working cover image that I wanted to share in this post as well.

I’m still in the creative concept phase, so things will still take time to shape up to a state where I’m happy with everything.

But at this point, I’ve already:

• Gone through the majority of photos from 3 visits to Hana,
• Edited most of the ones I’m interested in using,
• Grouped them into 7 rough “chapters” that I’m currently using to structure this edition (subject to change),
• And have begun laying out the first 10 pages so far.

Going through this about 1-2 hours a night, I should have enough progress to share another update again this time next week.

At this stage in the game, I’m going through images from our three previous trips to Hana over the years, and planning out the layout and theme of the eBook itself. And there’s a lot to chose from.

In addition to making this a photographic journey of all the sights along the famous East Maui highway, I’m also looking to add a little artistic spin to this edition as well.

Previous Editions

If you recall from the first edition, Around Maui, all the images featured were mocked up as posters using an App on the iPad.

While the second edition, Above Maui, had more of a subtle style to the image titles, this third edition aims to be something completely artistic.

What’s Planned

So far, here’s a list of working categories that images are currently being organized in (not necessarily the end result at this point):

• Hana Bay
• Hana Town
• Hanawai Falls
• Hookipa Beach
• Keanae Peninsula
• Koki Beach
• O’heo Gulch
• The Road
• Twin Falls
• Waianapanapa State Park
• Wailua Falls

I still have a few hundred photos to go through, so that list will likely get longer. As I mentioned – and as anyone who’s made the journey to Hana will confirm – there’s a lot to cover.

As I wrap up the image selection process and going into editing, I’m conservatively aiming for the end of April for a release. Honestly, I’m hoping to have something much sooner than that, but things always have a habit of popping up unplanned and getting in the way.

In either case, stay tuned here and on Facebook as I sneak a few updates out as Volume 3 progresses.

What’s New

Previously, the Maui by Poster eBook series was made available over at the Daily Maui Photo website here.

Shortly after that, the poster print gallery was also made available at the Daily Maui Photo site as well.

But today, both the eBooks and the print gallery have a shiny new home on the web, just dedicated to themselves.
